A competitive fee structure applies for our martial art School membership and classes...
Our summary of Fees are as follows:
Adult Fees
Based on minimum 90 minute classes - range from a base fee rate of $27.50 (incl. GST) per class (for enrolled members purchased as part of a monthly set), to a maximum of $33.00 (incl. GST) for a singular casual class - whereby the student purchases at the start of each month and paid in cash. For example:
(i) There is a 'minimum' pre-paid fee requirement every month of $110.00 (incl. GST) and represents up to 4 classes in the month however, in certain months for 'pre-paid' options greater than 4 classes per month; the total paid will only be based on $25.00 (incl. GST) per class e.g. 5 classes purchased for $125 (incl. GST).
(ii) Casual class fee's purchased 'as you go' during a part of the month (and offered only at instructors' discretion) = $33.00 (incl. GST).
All fees are elected and payable at first class of every month. Adult enrollment fees are based on the following (noting that all enrollments/re-enrollments expire on 31st December of each year and memberships/re-enrollments purchased are non-refundable):
- Purchased 1 January to 30 March = $132.00 (incl. GST)
- Purchased 1 April to 30 June = $99.00 (incl. GST)
- Purchased 1 July to 30 September = $77.00 (incl. GST)
- Purchased 1 October to 30 December = $55.00 (incl. GST)
The adult enrollment fee includes for the 'Hands On Defence' membership card (citing reference as a 'Dai-Shihan' of the Bujinkan thus student being automatically recognized as an international official 'Bujinkan' member). Bujinkan patches (Kyu & Dan grade) need to be purchased separately and worn on the uniform (heart/chest area) whilst the 'Hands On Defence' patches are to be displayed only on the upper arm areas [This relates to adults only]. The Hands On Defence School Manuals (Adults and Juniors) will until further notice, continue to be issued free as part of any new (first-time) adult or junior membership (note: manuals can be replaced by paying $44.00 (incl. GST) per replacement copy).
Our adult enrollment fee provides students with a professional study 'Welcome Pack' of outstanding value comprising:
1 - 'Hands-On Defence' School membership card (incl. Bujinkan Japan membership recognition per Dai-Shihan Dr Hodson)

3 - School Black Belt Training Manuals e.g. Dan grade (fee applies)
4 - Home training programs (progressively distributed by rank)
*Note: The School Manual outlines the basics requirements for the first few years of training and contains ~75 pages of school/ ninjutsu/ taijutsu/ grading etc information.
In addition a 'Starters Kit' is offered to new adult students representing great value at $275.00 (incl. GST) comprising:
1 - (1) Black Jacket (Adult 9-10oz material, Ninja Cadet 8oz material)
2 - (1) Black Trousers (Adult 9-10oz material, Ninja Cadet 8oz material)
3 - (1) White Training Belt
4 - (1 Set) Ninja Rubber Stars (Set of 3, mixed style)

As an optional extra, the School can also help provide you with Ninja Black Outdoor 'Tabi' (velcro fastening) for $82.50 (incl. GST).
Note: We feel confident that the above equipment is excellent value and is 'second-to-none' in terms of packages available as there are no postage / packaging / pick-up extra costs - we deliver to you at the training centre...however, please compare all of this to what other Ninjutsu / Budo Taijutsu / Martial Art Schools provide!!
'Ninja Cadet' Fees (Our Junior class offering)
Presented under the 'Hands On Defence- Spirit Of Ninjutsu' banner, and non-safety training weapon specific, 45-minute minimum classes are offered for $27.50 (incl. GST) per class (with the expectation that 4 classes will be offered per month - a minimum of 2 classes are to be pre-paid representing $55.00 (incl. GST) for the month minimum excepting for vacation/hospital, etc). Based on $132.00 incl. GST, per Calendar Year) membership fee (refer adult membership fee structure also above for part of the full year, also non-refundable). Our Junior membership cost including for a printed membership card plus a 50-page training reference manual (uniform purchased separately).

Administration & process related
Additional private personal training is open to all grades (by request only & subject to instructor/venue availability) at a cost of $110.00 per hour (incl. GST) however, excludes venue hire costs if external to 'Buyu Retreat'. Note: Up to 2 students may elect to share the cost of the one-hour private session.
Special Interest Events, seminars and workshops are open to all adult grades (occasional & subject to instructor / venue / service availability).
School visitor (1st time trial only) after successful completion of an initial School interview will be offered a visitor class fee of $27.50 (incl. GST) - however, this is limited to one class before the visitor will be required to make a decision around whether to continue and formally join the school e.g. refer annual enrollment fee above thereafter.
All 'kyu' grade tests - Ninja Cadets & Adults - are an extra fee based on $77.00 (incl. GST) [incl. 'Hands On Defence' School certificates & belts however Bujinkan 'kyu' & 'dan' grade certificates are an additional cost and provided on request for adults - refer Dai-Shihan].
Applications from all interested students will involve successful completion of three mandatory requirements, namely:
(i) Completion & Dai-Shihan acceptance of a personal interview, and
(ii) Completion & Dai-Shihan acceptance of a 'Participation & Release of Liability Form', and
(iii) Completion & Dai-Shihan acceptance of School monthly fee reward program form.

Overview of our typical Bujinkan Melbourne (Adult) Dojo training session
A minimum 90-minute session typically comprises three (3) distinct parts, namely:
- Part 1 (approx. 30 minutes): At the start of class, any School announcements are made by Dai-Shihan Hodson followed by a meditation/kuji-in period followed by a formal Bujinkan 'bow-in'. A period of junan-taiso (stretching etc) then follows e.g. to improve the body's ability to train in the most effective way. Then following this, fundamental break-falls, core conditioning/basics (Kihon Happo & Sanshin) of body movement complete the first part of the class [Student demonstrations are also encouraged].
- Part 2 (approx. 30 minutes): This period offers a focus on our training manual/grade test preparatory training - based on traditional techniques from the Kihon Happo, Sanshin and (nine) 'Ryu-Ha' (Styles/ Schools) of the Bujinkan. [Student demonstrations are also encouraged]. Note: this session may extend on occasions through to the end of class.
- Part 3 (approx. 30 minutes): This period offers training focused on armed (safety weapons) based training. At the end of the session, the class concludes with an appraisal of the class and may include training feedback and/or requested student demonstrations based on the weapon training session. Note: this session may commence earlier on occasions.
